Literary Fiction for Young Hearts and Thoughtful Minds
Welcome! L. Dacre Tynan is an author who finds joy in exploring the worlds we create—both within the pages of books and in the landscapes of our imaginations.
From Reader to Writer
My journey into writing began as a curious reader, drawn to the intricate world-building and rich storytelling crafted by my favourite authors. Growing up, I was captivated by concepts that sparked my imagination: storm events, clouds, geography, coffee, basketball, and the wonders of science and technology. These are among the many varied interests still shaping my creative lens today.
As an adult, my writing began when I joined Five South, an online literary journal. Reading and critiquing others’ work helped me develop my sense of tone and narrative style, while the support of the vibrant #WritingCommunity gave me the confidence to put pen to paper. In 2022, I took the leap to submit my first pieces for publication, and both were accepted!
“The World Beneath Books”: A creative non-fiction piece exploring the worlds writers create (and a playful take on writing sprints). The anthology BYLINE LEGACIES, which features this piece, can be found here:
BYLINE LEGACIES
“The Biscuit Thief Will Rue the Day” is a humorous take on inter-office politics and stolen biscuits, fitting within a quirky niche genre I lovingly call “Office Friction Fiction.”

The Name Behind the Stories
The pen name L. Dacre Tynan is a nod to my personal history. It combines the initial of my first name (Luke), my lesser-known middle name (Dacre), and my surname (Tynan). The blend feels like me but with a literary flair. I also enjoy the contrast between Luke, meaning light in Latin, and Tynan, derived from Irish roots meaning dark—a humorously fitting juxtaposition.
Plantsing Stories
My writing process is a balance between planning and discovery. I like to think of myself as a “plantser,” one who plots thoroughly but allows the story to grow organically as they write. This method of plotting (outlining) and ‘writing by the seat of my pants’ keeps the process both structured and exciting.
In 2025 (as you read this currently), I plan to embrace a set writing routine with daily goals—a journey I’m eager to share through future blog posts and newsletters.
Inspiration and Influence
Much of my inspiration comes from personal experiences, my love of quirky natural phenomena, and the works of authors like the Australian journalist and author Trent Dalton, renowned comedian, actor, author, and banjo player Steve Martin, and author and activist Reif Larsen. My interests—coffee culture, basketball, music, and science—often find their way into my writing, adding layers of authenticity and charm.
What Drives Me
At its core, my writing is about resilience, the choices that define us, and the transformative power of action. I write stories I enjoy, but I hope to one day become someone’s favourite author—though admitting that feels delightfully audacious!
Outside of writing, I have a love for obscure facts, quirky world events, and stand-up comedy. My dry wit and knack for spotting the humour in life often surprise readers and add a playful undercurrent to my stories.
Thank you for joining me on this creative journey. I hope my stories resonate with your heart and inspire your mind, offering a place to reflect, grow, and imagine.
